2010 Caulfield Autumn Classic Final Field

February 25th, 2010

The final field and barrier draw for this Saturday’s $180, 000 Group 2 Caulfield Autumn Classic (1800m) has been announced, with an elite field of ten gallopers ready to fight it out on the turf.

This year the Autumn Classic will be known as The Yalumba 161

This year the Autumn Classic will be known as The Yalumba 161 and it is the second feature race of Saturday’s Caulfield meeting that is headlined by the $500, 000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1600m).

David Hayes’ Extra Zero will be starting in the 2010 Autumn Classic after having been nominated for the Futurity Stakes as well. The Danzero colt has drawn wide with barrier nine and is due to be ridden by Glen Boss.

Prolific Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien has two of his three-year-olds entered in the Autumn Classic on Saturday, Take The Rap and Pins On Ice.

Take The Rap has drawn ideally in barrier two as he seeks another Group victory following his success in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) in January. The ever improving son of No Excuse Needed is coming off a last start second place to Linton in the Group 2 Alister Clarke Stakes, but there will be no rematch.

Linton will not run on Saturday despite having been nominated for both of the day’s Group features. Instead he will move straight to the Australian Guineas next week.

O’Briens’ other Autumn Classic starter Pins On Ice will start from barrier seven. The chestnut filly was well beaten when placing ninth to Tallow in their last Group race start, The Vanity, back on January 30 but is steadily improving.

Cosmocrat, trained by Mick Price, is another promising three-year-old lining up on Saturday. Cosmocrat has had only three previous career starts, winning in two and placing sixth last start in the Alister Clark. He is one to watch in the future but may be outclassed this time and has also drawn the far outside barrier ten.

In barrier one is the John McArdle-trained Absolute Faith, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt seeking her third career win, while Anthony Cummings’ has his Fastnet Rock filly Money Rocks jumping from six.

The Group 2 Autumn Classic (The Yalumba 161) is programmed as the eight race on the day’s bumper nine event schedule and is due to commence at 4:55pm (VIC time).
