Nominations released for the 2011 The Yalumba 162 show that 15 three-year-old colts, fillies and geldings have been nominated for this year’s race on Saturday February 26, 2011.
Previously known as the Autumn Classic, the Yalumba 162 is a set weight races contested over a distance of 1,800 metres and worth $180,000.
Peter Moody, Bart Cummings, Danny O’Brien and John Thompson all have two horses nominated for the 2011 The Yalumba 162.
Peter Moody is represented by both Elusive King and Eureka Jack.
Elusive King has won one of his previous four starts and has placed second twice.
The three-year-old Elusive Quality gelding has never before competed over the 1,800 metres distance, winning his only race over 1,412 metres.
Elusive Quality will be hoping to gain a win ahead of March 5’s Australian Guineas at Flemington, for which he is also nominated.
Bart Cummings will be hoping his three-year-old gelding Inadequate doesn’t live up to his name when he runs in the 2011 The Yalumba 162.
Inadequate has won one of his six career starts and this will be the gelding’s first attempt at the 1,800 metre distance, a big step up from his only previous victory over 1,100 metres.
Bart Cummings has also nominated his three-year-old colt I Think I Do, who has won one of his previous four starts.
I Think I Do competed in last weekend’s Group 2 D’Urban Stakes at Caulfield and finished ninth in an 11 horse field.
The D’Urban Stakes was I Think I Do’s first race with blinkers, so Bart Cummings will be hoping that his colt can perform second time around.
Micheal Kent’s Domesky will be contesting the title in the 2011 The Yalumba 162 after winning his maiden last start over 1,600 metres on February 16, 2011.
Domesky has previously covered the 1,800 metres distance when he finished an unlucky second in last November’s Listed Myer Fashion Stakes.
Domesky appears to suit the longer distance, and is sure to make his mark when he competes in the 2011 The Yalumba 162 this Saturday.
Also nominated are Mick Price’s Clemente, Anthony Cummings’ Glided Spur, David Payne’s Diamond Jim and Danny O’Brien’s Measin.
